Check back often during tonight’s game on News 95.5 FM & AM-750 WSB as sports director Jay Black blogs live from the UGA radio booth at Sanford Stadium.

FOURTH QUARTER

10:39 — FINAL SCORE: Georgia 42, Samford 14

10:22 — 2nd string offense now in, including QB Brice Ramsey.

10:20  — This is the first time Georgia has scored more than 40 points in the Kirby Smart era.

10:19 — Touchdown Samford: Hodges hits McKnight from 18 yards. It’s 42-14 with 13:49 left to go.

THIRD QUARTER

10:12 — END OF THIRD QUARTER: Georgia 42, Samford 7: Instant analysis — To borrow a phrase from Skip Caray, you have my permission to walk your Dawg. If Kirby Smart was that upset with Chuck Dowdle in his halftime interview, imagine how things went in the locker room. So it was a pretty good third quarter. Georgia rushed for nearly 93 yards in that quarter, with good work by D’Andre Swift getting his first career TD and Terry Godwin with another TD, to give him two on the night. He’s got a career high 98 yards.

UGA’s defense has now allowed -3 yards rushing are pushing their weight around. Nothing much Samford can do at all except complete a few passes.  The first stringers did fairly well tonight, despite a tongue lashing by the coach.

Time to see the  backups and then focus on Mississippi State.

10:11 — Dawgs starting to empty out the bench now with seconds left in the third quarter.

10:08 — TOUCHDOWN GEORGIA: D’Andre Swift with his first career rushing TD, from 11 yards. It’s 42-7 with 1:27 left in third quarter.

9:58 — Rushing yards: Georgia 191, Samford 1

9:53 — Yards per completion: Georgia 20.7, Samford 7.7.

9:51 — TOUCHDOWN GEORGIA: 9 yard screen pass from Fromm to Godwin. Georgia leads 35-7 with 8:33 left.

9:47 — Roquan Smith stuffs Samford on fourth and inches. That my friends is how you make a tackle. Smith is a terrific player.

9:38 — TOUCHDOWN GEORGIA: Nick Chubb with terrific vision to find a hole and run it in from 14 yards. UGA leads 28-7 with 12:19 left in third.

9:34 — Samford fumbles out of the Wildcat, recovered by John Atkins for UGA at the Samford 27.

SECOND QUARTER

9:10 — HALFTIME: Georgia 21, Samford 7: Instant analysis — The good news. It’s 21-7. Georgia is winning total yards 295-121, rushing yards 161-11 and passing yards 124-110. But something feels a shade off, not panic level off, but just a little off. Georgia had 208 yards in the first quarter and just 77 in the second quarter. UGA’s OL is still up and down. They’ve helped Nick Chubb rush for over 100 yards in the half, but Jake Fromm sure is running for his life too much against a team that is allowing 500 yards per game. That contributed to the game’s only turnover, a fumble by Fromm on a scramble.

As for the defense, well evidently they aren’t doing all that great. When UGA sideline reporter Chuck Dowdle told coach Kirby Smart it seemed the defense was doing a good job, Kirby wasn’t too thrilled.

“No they aren’t Chuck,” Kirby responded. “They give up a touchdown to a team we shouldn’t give up a touchdown too. We got to play to our level and we aren’t doing that.”

Fair enough. Lorenzo Carter is having another strong game though with a sack and several QB hurries. As smart pointed out, Samford was able to fly down the field with its quick passing game for its only score.

Back to the offense, Fromm is having a solid game besides the fumble. 6-for-10 for 124 yards with a couple of bombs. Terry Godwin leads with two catches for 57 yards. Chubb is up to 108 on the ground. D’Andre Swift has four carries for 27 yards. Sony Michel has not played because of a bad ankle. But the Dawgs are still up 21-7. And that’s good.

9:04 — UGA goes 3 and out after the block, but a 56 yard punt by Nizialek puts Samford back to the 15.

9:03 — Thats the first blocked FG for UGA since Ray Drew in 2014 against Tech.

9:02 — JR Reed blocks a 37 yard FG by Samford. Dawgs survive the fumble.

9:00 — Lorenzo Carter is all over Samford QB Hodges after the Bulldogs got in the red zone.

8:54 — Uh oh. Fromm fumbles on a scramble at the UGA 25 yard line. Samford ball with 4:58 left in half.

8:48 — Touchdown Samford: This one counts. Hodges to T.D. Marshall from nine yards out. UGA still leads 21-7 with 5:49 left in half.

8:45 — Samford nearly scores its first TD, but after review Adams was out at the UGA 4 yard line.

8:39 — The first 1st down for Samford comes with 9:48 left in the second quarter. Moise Satine picks it up out of the wildcat formation.

8:36 — Total yards update: Georgia 278, Nick Chubb 107, D’Andre Swift 27. All of Samford 23.

8:34 –TOUCHDOWN GEORGIA: Fromm to Godwin from 51 yards. Career long pass for Fromm. UGA leads 21-0 with 10:32 left in half.

8:27 — Samford fails on third down again. 0-for-4. Little Bulldogs still without a first down. UGA ball at its 45.

8:24 — Dawgs first drive of the second quarter stalls near midfield. UGA punts back to the Samford 10.

8:20 — Chubb is at 100 yards on 12 carries. His 19th 100 yard rushing game, moves into 2nd all time at UGA by himself.

FIRST QUARTER

8:16 — END OF FIRST QUARTER: Georgia 14, Samford 0: Instant analysis — Evidently Georgia’s offensive line through the game started at 7:50 instead of 7:38. The Dawgs big men where getting whipped (or whupped, depending on where your from) by the little Bulldogs. That lasted one series. In drive two, UGA rushed for 82 of the 87 yards, with four straight first downs on the ground. Now this game is looking like it is supposed to. Total yards, UGA leads 209-16. Rushing: 135-2. Passing 73-14. First downs 10-0. It’s total domination. Nick Chubb rushed for 95 yards on 10 carries. He’s having no issues. UGA sideline reporter joked Georgia’s defense isn’t giving its offense a chance to rest by forcing three straight three and outs. So far, there is no Nicholls State scare in the works.

8:14 — RUSH YARDS: Georgia 130, Samford 2.

8;14 — Samford goes 3 and out again. No first downs yet for the little Bulldogs. UGA ball at its 27.

8:12 — TOTAL YARDS: UGA leads 197-11.

8:11 — That’s Nick Chubb’s 32nd career rushing TD. He ties Charley Trippi for 5th all time. It’s also Charley Trippi day at UGA.

8:10 — TOUCHDOWN GEORGIA: Nick Chubb with a 32 yard TD run, with a great block from Fromm. UGA leads 14-0.

7:58 — TOUCHDOWN GEORGIA: Fromm to Mecole Hardman from five yards. Georgia leads 7-0 with 3:48 left in first quarter.

7:53 — UGA OL not getting whipped right now. Runs of 20, 20, and 13

7;48 –UGA’s defense doesn’t have any issues on first series. Samford goes and out and. Dawgs ball at their 13.

7:46 — UGA fails to pick up fourth and one with a run to Chubb. Samford ball at its 44. UGA OL getting whipped right now, says Eric Zeier.

7:41 — Samford bowls through UGA o-line on first play of game, but Fromm escapes for a 5 yard run.

7:36 p.m. — Samford calls tails and wins the toss. They will defer so Georgia ball.
